The Pain Barrier – Parkwood – Saturday 29th October 2016


If you read nothing else then read this:

  • You have to pick up your race pack at registration – nothing is sent out by post.
  • For WAVE 1 Runners collect your race pack between 9.00 and 10.45am. WAVE 1 Starts at 11.00am (line up from 10.45am).
  • For WAVE 2 Runners collect your race pack between 9.00 and 11.15am. WAVE 2 Starts at 11.30am (line up from 11.15am).
  • Leave plenty of time – we won’t wait for you!
  • Follow Sat Nav to BD4 0RR and then follow event signs.
  • Have Muddy Good Fun!

Directions – how to get to Parkwood:

Parkwood is located in the village of Tong, Bradford, UK. Just 10 minutes off the M62 and only 4 miles from Leeds and Bradford City Centres, Parkwood is easily accessible by car, rail and air.

From the M1 – exit at junction 42 and head West on the M62.

From the M62 – exit at junction 27 onto the A62, at the roundabout take the first exit onto the A650 (Bradford). At the roundabout, after 2.5 miles take the 3rd exit onto the B6135, and after 300m turn left into Tong Lane. The Pain Barrier at Parkwood is on the left hand side after 1 mile.

Car Parking:

The car park is open from 9.00am and is situated next to the event arena. Parking for you and your family and friends is free. Upon arrival please follow the Pain Barrier Event Parking signage and the marshals’ instructions. Parking is on fields within Parkwood 4×4, so if it’s wet your car might get muddy too! If arriving by Taxi or being dropped off please let parking officials know and they will direct you to a drop off area.

Registration:

Registration will be open from 9.00am.
Registration for WAVE 1 runners closes at 10:45am.
Registration for WAVE 2 runners closes at 11.15am.

All runners must visit registration to collect their race pack – leave yourself plenty of time!

All competitors must first read and sign the race waiver at registration. Take your completed waiver to the relevant table (ordered alphabetically by surname) and you will then receive your race pack. The race pack contains your race number, timing chip and cable ties.

Please complete the rear of your race numbers – particularly if you have any known allergy.

Entry on the Day:

On the day entries will be available in the registration tent – these will be priced at £35 and will be limited. Wave 1 is now Full. We suggest entering prior to avoid disappointment. Please check the website prior to travelling – we’ll post if there is no spaces available.

The Course:

The Pain Barrier at Parkwood is a 10km mud race set amongst 100 acres of off road wood and parkland. The course twists and turns across a variety of terrain so you’ll find yourself running along muddy tracks and open fields, through woodland, across ponds and water obstacles and tackling steep hills and ravines.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE ABLE TO SWIM TO TAKE PART BUT PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT THE COURSE WILL GO THROUGH PONDS AND STREAMS WHICH WILL BE COLD, WET AND VERY MUDDY.

Kit and Clothing:

Normal gym/running kit is ideal, you will get muddy, wet and probably cold, so we recommend a thermal top and possibly hat and gloves. Trail running or fell running shoes are ideal. An old pair of trainers will also be fine, although possibly a little slippy in places. It is probably best to leave your shiny new road shoes at home!

Please be prepared for the elements. We are not expecting sunny weather, so please bring suitable running clothing and a complete set of dry and warm clothes to change into afterwards.

Race Arena:

The race arena will be approximately 250m from the car park, follow signs from the bottom of the car park. The race arena including toilets, registration, key drop and a basic changing area. The key drop will be manned. Please note that all personal items are left at your own risk. We recommend leaving all baggage secured in your cars.

We recommend that all runners arrive at the event already changed and bring additional warm and dry items to put on for your return journey. Please note that there are no shower facilities on site.

Onsite caterers will also be present selling hot food and drinks.

PLEASE use bins/skip for rubbish.

Safety:

Medical support will be present on the course and at the finish. You should be fit and have no known medical conditions before starting the race. Please note – do not run with a cold or flu. This can be extremely dangerous.

Please be prepared for bad and cold weather with suitable racing clothing – thermals, hats and gloves may all be necessary. Also bring a complete set of warm clothes to change into afterwards.

Water:

You will pass a drink station on the course at approximately halfway where water will be provided, further water will be provided at the finish.

However, please bring your own water to drink before the start – even in cold weather it’s important to stay hydrated before the race.

Finish:

After you’ve conquered the Pain Barrier you will proceed down the finish chute. All timing chips will be removed; please do not leave the finish chute with your timing chip. Pain Barrier medals, technical t-shirts and goodie bags will then be handed out by our finish team.

Prizes:

The first three men and first three women will be awarded prizes on the day. There will also be prizes for the first V40, V50, V60 and V70 and 1st teams in both male and female categories.

Prize winners will be issued with their prize on the day. Prize winners who can’t be present at the prize-giving should contact info@thepainbarrier.co.uk within one week of the event.

The prize presentation will take place at approximately 1.30pm.

Race Photography:

The team from SportSunday Event Photography will be on site all day trying to capture you covered in Mud. Race pictures will be available to view and purchase after the event. Remember to smile (or grimace) folks!

Timing and Results:

Provisional results will appear on the website as soon as possible after the event. Timing chips must be attached to your shoe and NOT to any other part of your body. Please use the cable ties provided. Remember: NO CHIP = NO TIME.

Race Transfers and Refund Policy:

We regret that having entered The Pain Barrier, we will not be able to provide any refund or credit transfer or credit either in full or in part whatever the circumstances of the entrants’ non-attendance.

Entrants that can no longer attend cannot pass their entry over to another runner (names cannot be swapped).
